Personal Experience
Matthew is licensed in North Carolina and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Matthew’s practice with BiltGroup involves a wide range of business matters, including planning, transactional, and litigation. Matthew’s developing practice in territorial tax incentive programs of the U.S. Virgin Islands is helping companies take advantage of the Research Technology Park (RT Park) and Economic Development Commission (EDC) programs to achieve a 90% reduction in tax liability on qualified income.
Matthew graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst with honors earning a bachelor’s degree in business. Shortly thereafter was commissioned as an Officer in the United States Marine Corps and served on active duty and reserves, attaining the rank of Major. After honorable service to his country, Matthew entered the business world in real estate and eventually founding a small private equity real estate investment company. When the unprecedented 2008 financial crisis created uncertainty in the real estate market, Matthew took the opportunity to pursue a long-time goal of becoming an attorney, graduating Magna Cum Laude from the North Carolina Central University School of Law. Matthew brings to BiltGroup his leadership, organization, and business acumen, as well as his years of commercial litigation, real estate, and debtor/creditor law experience.
